We tend to take our hands and feet for granted...give them some well deserved love with my favourites from Margaret Dabbs, ByRedo and Diptyque.
When I was a little girl I enjoyed having my nails painted, it was an quick and easy way of expressing my style or mood. I remember excitedly showing off my newly painted nails to everyone (whether they were interested or not), admiring them each time.
I don’t ‘show off’ my manicured nails as much these days, but thankfully, taking care of my nails, hands and feet has become second nature to me. I still receive compliments (just not ‘forced’), not only on the shade of nail varnish, but also on how well my nails and hands look.
I tend to see my hands more than any other part of my body, therefore whenever they look dry or feel rough, my immediate response is, put on some hand cream and treat asap. I think I may be close to being border line OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), where I am embarrassed if anyone sees my hands when they are dry! It doesn’t bother me if I have makeup on them, a few times I’ve travelled home still with makeup swatches on my hands.
Likewise, I am just as OCD with my feet, I don’t wear flip flops, I don’t walk around bare footed, I can’t tolerate dirty or rough feet. You get the picture, taking care of my nails, hands and feet are important to me.
Margaret Dabbs a podiatrist and foot expert, founded her first foot clinic in the Harley Street area of London in 1998, where she performed her unique ‘Medical Pedicure’. She later created her own brand Margaret Dabbs London, featuring multi-award winning products that are a hybrid of medical and luxury beauty. This highly effective range of hand, feet and leg products are used and sold globally at her foot clinics and nail spas where her team of qualified podiatrists and professional beauticians perform her unique treatments. Margaret Dabbs products are also sold at several major retail stores internationally.
MARGARET DABBS NOURISHING NAIL & CUTICLE SERUM
Apply a thin layer to the entire nail and cuticle area on both hands and feet. Use twice daily - one preferably at night before bed. Like a nail and cuticle oil is applied after nails are painted at a nail bar, this serum can be used on varnished nails.
This nail and cuticle serum moisturises and softens cuticles leaving the condition of nails significantly improved with continued use. My nails grow strong, do not split and are in good condition despite regularly having a Gelish Manicure.
Likewise this serum is great to use on toe nails too. Both my big toes are a little discoloured, one is very dry, brittle and uneven, and one of my small toe nails grows thick and crooked. Since using this serum, I have noticed encouraging improvements on the toe nails mentioned above. The dry big toe nail looks smoother (no longer brittle or flaky) and I can see the natural nail colour starting to peek through on both big toes. The toe nail that is thick appears slightly thinner and flatter. I didn’t expect much with this one, knowing it needs to be seen by an expert.
I am currently still at the denial stage (I don’t need to see anyone, I can fix this myself), but I have started to research into possible podiatrists including Margaret Dabbs clinics. It may be a few weeks or months before I finally accept the inevitable and book the appointment. Like I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, I go through several motions with myself. If I really ‘need’ or ‘want it’, I will do the research, check reviews, locations, costs, recommendations, etc. and then make an informed decision.
In the meantime, I am hoping that with regular use of this nail serum, my nails will look better and hopefully my big toe nails will be looking more like their neighbour, strong, healthy and smooth.
MARGARET DABBS INTENSIVE HYDRATING FOOT LOTION
Apply a small amount to the feet daily.
I like to keep this foot lotion by my bedside table and apply 1 pump per foot every night before I go to bed.
This multi-award winning foot cream is the hero of Margaret Dabbs London and was the first product she created. It is therefore no surprise that Margaret Dabbs Foot Lotion is my holy grail - a cashmere comfort blanket for my feet.
The first time I applied this amazing lotion, my feet felt instantly hydrated, soothed, fresh and revitalised, alleviating my tired and sometimes swollen feet, and making them feel weightless. It felt like my feet were in deeply hydrating and protective air-cushioned invisible boots. When I walked, it was like I was either on a ‘hover board’ (like in the movie ‘Back to the Future’),(not that I have ever been on one to actually know how that feels),or on a moving walkway/autowalk. Margaret Dabbs description - ‘leaves you walking on air’, sounds ‘normal’ in comparison to mine! It’s good to be different... I’ve finally accepted that I am a little ‘eccentric’ and don’t bother to conceal it anymore.
After just a few applications, my feet are noticeably moisturised, smoother, softer, brighter and youthful looking. With continued use and with the aid of Margaret Dabbs Foot File, this lovely foot lotion is extremely effective in combatting hard calloused and cracked skin, leaving feet looking fabulous!
MARGARET DABBS INTENSIVE HYDRATING HAND LOTION
Apply a small amount to the hands. Use twice daily and as often as desired.
A light, non-greasy, rich silky hand lotion that easily melts into the skin, leaving hands hydrated, soft and silky smooth with no sticky residue (no smudges on my mobile). This hand cream does everything, it repairs, protects, hydrates, firms, soothes, anti-inflammatory, evens skin tone, is anti-ageing reduces timelines and wrinkles and improves the elasticity of the skin. If that wasn’t enough to give this one a try, it has a geranium and mandarin scent which is lovely, fresh and citrusy.
BYREDO HAND LOTION - Rose
Understated and unique, Swedish luxury label, BYREDO is one of the most chic beauty brands of the moment.
Apply a small amount to clean dry hands daily and as often as desired.
It's all about the scent with this one! A gorgeous clean, dark rose scent that lingers on the hands, giving bursts of fragrance throughout the day. I generally don’t like floral fragrances, especially rose scents, however, BYREDOs’ Rose and Gypsy Water are my exceptions. This hand lotion is light, non-greasy, protects, hydrates and leaves hands feeling soft, smooth and smelling divine.
Notes - A delicate blend of Raspberry Heart Rose Petals, Magnolia, Patchouli, Pink Pepper, White Musk, Papyrus Wood and White Amber.
My apartment is painted white throughout, so the BYREDO Hand Lotion looks right at home, whether it is by the kitchen sink, in the bathroom, on the dresser in the bedroom or in the hallway by the main door (where this one is kept), ready to grab a pump before I leave home.
DIPTYQUE HAND CREAM - Eau Rose
Diptyque was founded in 1961 by three friends (a painter, set designer and architecture) with a shared passion to create fabrics, candles, fragrances and home products that are inspired by cultural, historical and poetic influences.
Apply a small amount to the hands. Use daily and as often as desired.
This is my holy grail hand cream for my handbag.
A light-weight, non greasy silky cream that absorbs quickly leaving hydrated, velvety soft hands, scented with Diptyque’s signature Eau Rose fragrance. Another rose fragrance from the woman who doesn’t like rose scents... maybe, I like rose smelling hands? I keep cupping my hands together and inhaling the scent... it’s totally addictive. Sometimes, it’s better to simply accept that you like something, without having to explain the contradiction.
Eau Rose is a light rose, fruity fresh scent that emulates femininity to perfection. The fragrance is delicate, long lasting and is very ‘je ne sais quoi’.
Notes: Damask Rose, Centifolia Rose, Blackcurrant, Lychee, Honey, Bergamot, Musk and Cedar.
Housed in a chic white tube with a pump dispenser, Diptyque Hand Cream in Eau Rose would make an ideal gift and would be appreciated by most, even those (like me), who are not partial to rose or floral scents.
Unfortunately, I have ‘misplaced’ my one, hence, why there is no photo here. It will probably show up soon, now that I’ve decided to post this blog without it, or after I succumb to purchasing a new one. Alway’s the way. Hmmm... maybe I actually finished it and ‘forgot’. I’m having a peri-menopausal brain episode, another reason why it’s taken me so long to write this blog. And, yes, I will be posting a blog on menopause in the very near future.
